INGREDIENTS
675g wholemeal flour
3 tsp salt
1 1/5 tsp bicarbonate of soda
225 ml natural yoghurt
225 ml water
Mix the dry ingredients together to start the soda bread dough. Stir the water and the yoghurt together before pouring onto the flour. Mix well together until it forms a sticky dough. You may need to add a couple of tablespoons of water to bind it all together. Break into 8 pieces and knead each piece on a floured surface for a few minutes. Create any shaped loaf you like – a round roll, long baguette, a twist or a plait. Place on a baking tay covered in greaseproof paper and bake at it for approximately 180 degrees. You will know when it is ready when you tap the bottom of the baked soda bread and it sounds hollow.
